We are heartbroken to report that Matthew Power, a VQR contributing editor, died yesterday in Uganda while on assignment for Men’s Journal. His investigative reporting for us took him to countries that were foreign to most of our readers, but he found a way to make those places understandable through his profound narrative gift and knack for storytelling. In his essay “One More Martyr in a Dirty War: The Life and Death of Brad Will,” Power told the story of an activist and journalist who was killed in Oaxaca while covering a teachers’ strike; now, tragically, his own name has been added to the roll of those in the journalism community who died too young. We grieve with his family and hold them in our thoughts.
