Ranveer Singh is the first actor in twenty-five years to enter the film industry from a non-film family background and as a complete unknown. Singh was discovered by YRF casting director Shanoo Sharma when he crashed her birthday party after returning to India from studying in the US. In 2011, he won every award in Bollywood for his debut film, Band Baaja Baaraat.
With more than a billion fans, the Hindi film industry is built on family ties and handshake agreements.

Mark Bennington recently completed a documentary-photography book on the acting community of Mumbai, titled Living the Dream: The Life of the “Bollywood” Actor. In addition to freelance and commercial assignments, he has also been a featured contributor for the Times of India, the Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times.
