James Dickey

Biography

James Dickey (1923 – 1997) was the author of more than twenty poetry collections, including Buckdancer’s Choice (Wesleyan, 1964), which won the National Book Award. He also wrote three novels, the most famous of which, Deliverance (Houghton Mifflin, 1970), was adapted into a movie. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Dickey also served as the US Poet Laureate from 1966 to 1968.
